Spellings: today’s spelling is the word island. Write a line of the word island in your green exercise book and then write 3 sentences including it.

Continuing with what we learnt about conjunctions yesterday, today we will be looking in closer detail at a specific type of conjunction - coordinating conjunctions. Coordinating conjunctions can be used to join two clauses in a sentence. However, the clauses need to make sense on their own. The main 3 coordinating conjunctions are ‘and’, ‘but’ and ‘or’. Visit the link below to the BBC Bitesize page, watch the video, do the activity and complete the quiz.

 https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/z9wvqhv

Then, complete the worksheet that has been posted as a PDF, ‘Coordinating Conjunctions Worksheet’. Write the sentences and answers in your green exercise book.

Spellings: Today’s spelling to focus on is height. Please write 5 sentences including the word height.

Over the past week we have learnt about adjectives, speech marks, adverbs and prepositions. As today is the final day of writing your story, we will recap what we have learnt.

Write the sentences below in your green book. After the sentence I want you to write if the underlined word/phrase is an adjective, speech, adverb or preposition. Use the links from previous days to remind you what they mean if you need to.

For example:

  • A dog ran past the classroom. Preposition.

Your sentences:

  • “How high can you jump?” Asked Freddie.
  • The fluffy dog looked at me expectantly.
  • We are going to the park after school.
  • The boy bravely ran into the cave.
  • There was a deafening roar from the lion.
  • I hid my book inside a cupboard.
  • “What would you like for your tea?” Mum asked.
  • I put my beautiful flowers into a vase.

Finally, it is time to write the ending of your story. This is the last time you will be working on your story so make sure that you include everything you want to say! Think about how Tom and Lilly are feeling at the end – how do they feel now that their adventure is over? Did they have fun? What does Tom say to Lilly? Do they hope to go on another adventure in the future?

  3. My cat lies under the table at night.
  4. I always keep my glasses beside my bed so that I can grab them easily..
  5. After school I am going to the park.

Now it is time to write the resolution of your story! This is not quite the ending to your story, so don’t end it just yet. In this section you need to make sure any problems are solved. Think about how those problems were solved, if Tom has learnt anything from his experience during the problem and how Tom and Lilly feel now that the problem is over.

Literacy

Your writing task today will be to write the next stage of your story, the problem. As we have done for the past couple of days, we will complete some activities before we begin writing. The problem is the main part of your story, and is where most of the action will happen. This means that you will be using verbs (an action or doing word) and can improve your sentences by using adverbs! An adverb is a word that describes a verb.

Firstly, visit the following BBC Bitesize page. Watch the video and complete the activity and quiz.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zgsgxfr

Next, write down the following sentences in your green exercise book. Where I have left a gap, I would like you to fill it with an adverb.

  • The girl ran ________ away from the monsters.

  • She spoke _________ to her mum.

  • Bill plays the piano _________.

  • The waves crashed _________ at the beach.

  • He ate the chocolate cake __________.

After that, write out the following sentences. When you have written the sentences, circle the adverb.

  • She angrily slammed the car door.

  • He gently woke up the sleeping baby.

  • She jumped excitedly on the bouncy castle.

  • The dog ran happily towards his owner.

Now it is time to write the problem section of your story. Do this in your green exercise book. Don’t forget to add some adverbs to this part of your story.
